THE WORKSHOP
The dance masterclass every photographer needs
Ever shot a ballerina, checked the back of your camera and realised you’d missed the moment by a split second? Or wanted to ask for a pose but had no idea what it was called? You’re not alone. Ballet happens fast, and unless you know what you’re looking for, the best shot is often gone before you’ve pressed the shutter.
Starting Out in the Studio: Dance is a hands-on dance masterclass that fixes exactly that. Over the day, you’ll work with a professional ballerina, shooting every setup yourself with expert guidance at your side.
Direction and posing with Naomi and Katie
Naomi and Katie will teach you the language of ballet, so you’ll know your arabesque from your attitude and can ask for exactly the pose you want. They’ll show you the silhouettes that work every time and the details to look out for: pointed feet, long lines and soft hands. You’ll learn how to fix the common mistakes photographers make with dancers, and direct with confidence from the very first frame.
Lighting for dance with Jason
Jason will show you how to light dancers for both held poses and movement, including how to time your shot so you catch a move at its peak. You’ll learn which lighting setups flatter a dancer’s lines, and how to adapt them whether your model is holding a pose or pirouetting across the studio.
By the end of the day, you’ll have a set of striking ballet images for your portfolio and the confidence to direct, light and shoot dancers on your own.

YOUR EDUCATOR
Naomi
Co-founder, Commercial & Creative
Naomi co-founded Creativity Hub in 2017 and leads on all corporate partnerships and strategic sponsorships. She works with leading photography brands to bring the best kit into the room, giving photographers direct, hands-on access to the tools that shape their work on the day.
She loves working in high-pressure creative environments and uses that experience to shape events where photographers can produce stronger, more ambitious work.

YOUR EDUCATOR
Katie
Casting Director
Katie heads the casting director's office, the longer-arc work of finding new models, performers, dancers, period specialists, and stunt-trained subjects to keep the casting roster fresh. Often seen running around backstage with a clipboard, she's equal parts talent scout and movement expert and she knows exactly when someone has “it”, and how to get them in the room!
If you're a working model, performer, or specialist looking to work with the Hub, Katie is who you talk to. The casting database is open to new applicants twice a year.

YOUR EDUCATOR
Jason
Lead Educator, Content
Jason is the technical brain behind the lighting setups, studio systems, and digital backbone of the Hub. From cinematic portrait lighting to high-end commercial setups, he teaches photographers how to shape light with confidence while somehow making the technical feel creative, simple, and genuinely fun.
When he’s not leading lighting education, Jason is usually behind the scenes building, fixing, upgrading, or reinventing the Creativity Hub digital world, from the website and event systems to the little innovations nobody notices until they stop working. Part photographer, part educator, part full-time tech fixer, he’s the reason both the lights and the website stay on.
Styled models & sets
Professionally styled models sets for all half-day or full-day sessions with dedicated models on each set.
Lunch & refreshments
A buffet style lunch with the team gives a welcome break for full-day attendees to reset, review pictures, and prepare for the afternoon sessions. Tea, coffee and pastries throughout the day for all guests.
Aftercare & community
A place in our community groups to share images and support fellow photographers in celebrating the best events shots, and stay in touch long after the event.
1-to-1 shooting time
With group sizes of only 3-4 so you will enjoy plenty of dedicated time within your group to shoot 1-to-1 with agency level models on each set. Never a scrum for position - paparazzi style shooting is strictly forbidden.
Direct access to a Lighting Director
To help your build confidence, every event kicks off with a full kit demo covering lighting and camera settings relevant for the event aesthetic. Lighting directors are always on-hand to take questions throughout the day if required.
